Dreaming of a Cozumel Vacation

Dreaming of a Cozumel Vacation

Article by Caitlin Moore

It’s Mexico but it’s an island; it’s romantic enough for lovers but also packed with family-friendly activities; Cozumel has a wide range of qualities that place it high on the list of desirable vacation destinations. It also exhibits an air of playfulness and spontaneity, meaning you never know what might happen while you’re here.

First of all, Cozumel is known for being a fantastic diving spot. Avid scuba divers enjoy the amazing marine life in and around the coral reefs that hug the island, and professionals are on hand to ensure that adventurers of all skill level have a safe and exciting time under the sea. The habitat is largely protected by the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park, so the underwater scenery is top notch and well-taken care of.

Several different sites attract divers and snorkelers alike, so choose one or a few to visit while you’re here. Palancar, Santa Rosa and Punta Sur are the most famous spots for scuba, while snorkeling can be done at any number of quiet or not-so-quiet beaches. Playa Mia Grand Beach Park offers tours, activities of all kind and facilities such as restrooms, lockers and umbrellas and Playa Uvas is equally desirable thanks to its amenities and extras like massages, restaurants and shopping. A day at the beach is more than just that in Cozumel.

Beyond the basics are plenty of surprises, too. The four historic districts of San Gervaiso tell of the Mayan world that once existed here. The Temple of El Cedral is the oldest building most people ever lay eyes on, and El Caracol is a nearly thousand year old structure that was once used to signal the coming of a hurricane. These intriguing sites are interspersed throughout the island and add a bit of perspective to the beauty of the surroundings and the modern day diversions occurring everywhere else.

Such diversions include plenty of shopping, so bring an empty suitcase in order to tote home all the exotic goods and specialty treats you’ll surely pick up here. Jewelry, textiles, leather, pottery and perishables like coffee, vanilla and liquor are all up for grabs, so get ready to bargain and buy to your heart’s content.

Museums, golf courses, horse back riding and ATV tours and modern reproductions of Mayan villages are a few more possibilities to add to the itinerary. Punta Sur Lighthouse will let you take your own postcard worthy shot of a landmark, and while in this area you may catch a glimpse of crocodiles, giant turtles or iguanas. Of course, spending a day beneath the shade of an umbrella while the sound of the surf lulls you into a state of deep repose is also a perfectly viable option.

No matter how many people you’re traveling with and what their interests may be, one fact is universal: accommodations play a huge role in determining the success of a vacation. In Cozumel, take care of this important element by choosing to reserve one of the many fabulous vacation rentals available. From beach houses to oceanfront condos, stately villas to quiet cottages, an assortment of styles and price ranges will ensure that any and all travelers’ needs are met.

A common misconception leaves people thinking that only the rich or somehow well-connected can take advantage of the conveniences inherent in a Cozumel Vacation Rental. This is simply not the case; good deals are plentiful and considering all that comes as part of the package (kitchen, multiple rooms, patio, beach access, wireless internet…) it usually comes out to be quite reasonable.

As you set your sights on Cozumel and the mysterious (but sure to be marvelous) memories it will soon leave you with, set the stage for success by checking out the vacation rental options. After that, just clear your schedule and toss your swimsuit in a bag – the island is waiting.
